The Gospel

When John Knox landed in Scotland from Geneva the news flew like lightning over the country. The inhabitants of Edinburgh rushed into the streets. All business was instantly given up. Mounted messengers sped everywhere shouting the joyful tidings, "John Knox is come." The whole land was moved and stirred by the inspiration of "Knox is come." It meant to Scotland Salvation from the tyranny of Popedom. But here is better news, would that it had the same effect: "The Son of Man has come to seek and save the lost" (Mat_18:11). Messengers of God shout it out, "Christ has come." It means a present Salvation from the thraldom of sin and self. Groaning Scotland still needs this.
