Heavenly-Mindedness

If, as Emerson says, "The eye of Lyncaus could see through the earth," then what else but the Heavens could be seen in the distance? It is not always the best bargain that you can see through. What would it profit a man though he should gain the whole world when he became able to see through it? All those whose eyes have been opened by the Spirit of God can see through the earth onto the things which are spiritual and eternal. They are but short-sighted creatures who cannot see through the earth into the Heavens beyond. It is sad when the earth is allowed to come between and blind the eyes to the abiding inheritance in the everlasting kingdom.
