Spiritual Blindness

In Kentucky there is a great deep cave which stretches away for several miles under ground, and is inhabited by blind fishes. In loving the darkness rather than the light these poor fishes have lost the power of sight. Eyes they have, but they see not. Man's love for the darkness of sin deprives him of all spiritual vision. He is in darkness until now. In loving the darkness the power of sight is lost. It would not be enough that light should shine into that cavern of darkness; those benighted fishes must have their power of vision born again if the light is to be enjoyed. The light of the Gospel has come, but without the eye-opening power of the Holy Spirit that is not sufficient to save from the darkness of death. "It is the Spirit that quickeneth" (John 6:63).
